Tightly conjunct a retrograde Mercury and in the final few degrees of its sign, today’s lunation appears to be mostly a reminder that often we create our own new beginnings. It is frequently necessary to retrace our steps, tie up loose ends and correct mistakes, since we are all far from infallible; and this New Moon in the investigative and deep-diving Scorpio implies the need for an overhaul of some area in our lives before progress can again be made.
Events on the national and global stage of late have proved more clearly than ever the cracks in our sociopolitical systems. Those at the top have exploited and abused said flaws for many decades, which has always resulted in the more vulnerable among us suffering; now taken to extremes, both the abuses and their consequences are occurring in plain sight, while the longer-term effects of cutthroat capitalism, in particular the warming of our planet, are also now painfully obvious.
If we’re going to foster a better world for everyone, we must thoroughly deconstruct the existing problems. Likewise, improving our individual lives requires first acknowledging and then addressing the habits of thought and action that tend to get us stuck in mental bogs. This is not a call for judgment or blame; merely for recognising, and taking courage to really understand, who we are as an entirety.
A large part of this process is learning to receive our own unconditional love, which – especially in the present context – also requires considerable bravery. For though the act of transformation involves rooting out and removing that which stifles growth, we must also take care to preserve all that is good and beautiful and true; and doing so has arguably never been more important than it is today.
