Introduction
Apologies that this report is coming to you a little late. The upside is that, for the first time, every minor planet entry below – including the 12 signs – has a Focus On link you can use to explore further. This fulfils an aim I’ve cherished since I began these posts, and is due in no small part to the support and encouragement I’ve received. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I intend to continue expanding the Focus On library as far as possible, which I hope will be of service both to those among my astrological colleagues who, like me, are enthusiastic about the minor planets, and to anyone else curious on the subject. Broad conclusions regarding this work are likely to evade reach for quite a while; it’s a long job. However, I can say with certainty that the information I come across is endlessly fascinating, often serendipitous, occasionally surprising and – in terms of better understanding the crowds of bodies orbiting our Sun – decidedly helpful.
One final word before we get into this month’s compilation.
It is deeply, excruciatingly painful to witness the ongoing genocide in Gaza; to read the multiple pleas on behalf of the suffering, feel their despair, and understand how many lives hang in the balance – including, horrifically, many children and babies. Words cannot properly express the sorrow this situation evokes, and you may, as I often do, feel helpless in the face of indifference and complicity from others. However, I am convinced that no act of kindness and solidarity, no matter how small, is ever wasted.
So long as this mass murder continues, I will go on caring, donating where I can, sharing appeals for help and recognising the utter wrongness of Netanyahu’s actions and those of his accomplices. The wanton cruelty in this and other events could well be part of a larger strategic aim to normalise evil deeds in our minds. I refuse to submit to any such attempt; I refuse to acquiesce to dehumanisation; and I urge everyone reading this to do the same. No matter how difficult it gets, we must keep compassion and decency alive within ourselves and everywhere possible.
Thank you, and onward we go.
Basic details and main features
New Moon, 24th July 2025, 19:11 UTC, 2+ Leo
Covering only aspects within one degree of orb, as these reports do, can sometimes exclude facets of an event that may be relevant; though, since the body of information to be gleaned from any chart is mountainous, astrological work in any form can be said to run the same risk.
This particular lunation, however, occurred in close contact with several significant outer bodies, each of which speak to the astonishing moment we are witnessing. To begin with, the New Moon opposed Pluto in Aquarius, which likely indicates a general form of wake-up call for anyone who is still managing to remain comfortable. The luminaries were additionally trine the Saturn-Neptune conjunction in early Aries, which among other matters likely speaks to the species-wide identity crisis we are all experiencing. Humanity is discovering (or rediscovering) its own nature, with mixed reviews and evident room for improvement.
Also in the mix is Sedna in Gemini, with Uranus approaching its position. Sedna is discussed in detail below; though its domains include the long-term arc of human evolution and our present impact on the environment.
It would appear each of us is called at this time to face collective challenges, and play our part in the associated lessons for our society. As individuals, we cannot solve current problems in their entirety; we can, however, make a conscious choice in our personal lives to be part of the solution. Such decisions do not usually take place on an epic scale. Often they feel trivial amid the enormity of the crises we are encountering. Never forget, though, that the macrocosm reflects the microcosm. Every time we reaffirm our ethical position – regardless of the scope of the action – we contribute towards the whole. Especially at this juncture, I am convinced no step in the right direction is too small. I have probably said this many times before, but herein lies your power. Do not surrender it.

Theano’s thoughts
There is a great deal of wisdom in the philosophy of the ancients that anyone we encounter might just be a divinity, and that therefore we are well advised to treat strangers with due respect. Without dwelling on the potential outcomes for the doer, this is an excellent rule of thumb for fostering compassion at a time when it’s sorely needed; notwithstanding the actual truth that each of us contains a spark of the sacred, and affording suitable acknowledgment to that in others does much to honour and brighten our own.

Aries In focus: (145) Adeona – Ch-type asteroid and parent of the Adeona family. Adeōna is a Roman childhood goddess, ruling safe return and homecomings. Alongside these, the asteroid may represent nurture, caution versus risk, adventurousness and curiosity, awareness, completion, or wisdom gained from experience. (3361) Orpheus – Near-Earth asteroid and member of the Apollo group, named for the famed Thracian bard in Greek myth. Suggested meanings include musical or prophetic aptitude, persuasiveness, grief; sad or sweet music; the melody of the soul; gradual or incomplete relationships, or those requiring decision and work. Position in event chart: Both quincunx Mars from your sign. Theano’s thoughts: If you’re feeling stuck for ideas on a current project, try mentally retracing or reviewing your steps leading up to this point, and the rationale behind your decisions. Probing deeper in places might yield fresh inspiration. |

Taurus In focus: (158) Koronis – Namesake of the outer main belt Koronis family, identified with a Thessalian princess and the mother of Asklepios. Alex Miller calls this asteroid “our celestial marker for the coronavirus”. I’d add: redemption; messages, communication and misunderstandings; breaches of etiquette or rules causing underestimation or undervaluing of a person or idea. (351) Yrsa – S-type main belt asteroid named for a Danish and Swedish queen in Norse myth. Connections are suggestive of resilience, grace, intensity and power behind the scenes. Position in event chart: Both semi-square Venus from Taurus. Theano’s thoughts: Habits of mind, especially those learned early, have a tendency to persevere if their causes are not addressed. If one or two of yours have been reasserting themselves lately, tackle them as close to the root as possible. |

Gemini In focus: (275) Sapientia – C-type main belt asteroid identified with the Roman personification of wisdom. Mark Andrew Holmes delineates Sapientia as “to be smart or be seen as such”. Associations additionally indicate themes specifically surrounding the dissemination of knowledge, art, exploration and return to base, prognostication and progress, alongside wisdom itself. (432) Pythia – Stony asteroid from the main belt, named for the longstanding high priestess and oracle of the temple of Apollo at Delphi. Neptune’s Aura Astrology suggests mature handling of prophetic energy “where we can be honest and believed, yet where we can discern when it would be better to [do] nothing”. Correspondences imply a profound gravity and depth to the responsibility conferred; custodianship of elemental or primal power; the necessity of self-knowledge and self-control. Position in event chart: Both semi-square Mercury from Gemini. Theano’s thoughts: Wisdom often proves its solidity by being useful over time or in a variety of situations. That need not diminish in the case of others receiving it dismissively for whatever reason. Trust in your personal experience. |

Cancer In focus: (133) Cyrene – Resident of the outer main belt Hecuba gap. Kyrene was a famed and skilful huntress loved by Apollo. Cyrene has quite a Leonine/Strength feel, with the Sabian discussing creativity and inspiration; may also indicate fearlessness or being driven. (2102) Tantalus – Q-type asteroid from the Apollo group, named for the Greek king of Lydia who tried to test the gods; his eternal punishment was to stand in a pool of water beneath a fruit tree with low branches, but unable to eat or drink. May also represent the power of desire or need to foster learning, development and the pursuit of excellence, or high aims that are difficult to achieve in present circumstances. Position in event chart: Both semi-sextile the Moon from your sign. Theano’s thoughts: Study your present aims. Interpretations given so far include: what has been lost beyond the point of recall or is outdated and useless, nostalgia and clinging to the past; customer retention and recovery based on resolving dissatisfaction; dependence, reliance, untimely problems, drama, sense of critical need. Correspondences further suggest transformative energy and the release of one’s true potential, or circumstances getting out of control. (368) Haidea – D-type asteroid from the outer main belt; name origin is unknown, though there exists a 19th century comic opera, Haydée, featuring the titular character as a slave girl who is really a princess and ultimately marries her beloved. May signify learning from or overcoming obstacles, attaining fame or influence, applied wisdom, adventure, controlled emotional responses (or use of emotion as a power source). Position in event chart: Both conjoined the New Moon in Leo. Theano’s thoughts: Keep an eye open for opportunities to step out into the light and stand in your truth. Acknowledge any anxiety or doubt you might feel; working through this is a necessary step. Yet, like anyone, you deserve to be seen. |

Virgo In focus: (14) Irene – S-type asteroid identified with the Greek goddess of peace and the season of spring. Interpretations offered so far emphasise display (as of items for sale) and Eirene’s position as one of the three seasons. Certainly there is much in the correspondences to suggest spring and all the potential it contains, and new beginnings. (469705) ǂKá̦gára – Cold cubewano with an orbit length of approximately 291.7 years. In South African ǀXam mythology, ǂKá̦gára and his brother-in-law ! Possibly also relates to skill in working with elemental or natural forces, familial tension, overreaction or immediate reaction, fighting to be seen or heard as one truly is. Position in event chart: Irene was on the cusp of Virgo; ǂKá̦gára was semi-square Mercury from your sign. Theano’s thoughts: It’s not always possible to recognise our own wants and needs, especially if we have learned to hide or ignore them. However, knowledge is power, and self-knowledge carries the potential for change. Keep excavating. |

Some interpretations include separating and balancing the personal and professional; wildness, lawlessness, hunting; badassery; control and domination of rebellion, especially in groups; respect or otherwise for the planet and its creatures; status seeking, susceptibility to glamour; eruptive energy that is not easy to channel constructively; animism. Position in event chart: Both on the cusp of your sign. Theano’s thoughts: Humans thrive on good social connections, and it’s rarely healthy to take self-reliance to extremes. With regard to your particular needs in this moment, make sure you’re seeking adequate help or support. |

We might add personal growth through experience, learning a different perspective, finding the good in challenging circumstances, and the engaging joie de vivre that is natural to youth. (388) Charybdis – Outer main belt asteroid identified with the Greek sea-monster who presided over a whirlpool guarding the Strait of Messina. Meanings offered so far include “an inescapable whirlpool” and “the need to keep trying and trying”. Could also signify wise actions that help one avoid falling into error, or learning from one’s errors; repetition or backward steps that may precede progress; or unorthodox, inspired solutions. Position in event chart: Isolda was semi-square Mars and Charybdis square Pluto, both from Scorpio. Theano’s thoughts: Instinct might be drawing you – perhaps quite emphatically – in a definite direction concerning your career or ambitions. Without obliging yourself to commit resources, follow the trail for a while and notice what you learn. |

(944) Hidalgo – D-type centaur orbiting between Jupiter and Saturn, identified with Don Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla (1753-1811), a Catholic priest, leader of the Mexican War of Independence and recognised as the Father of the Nation. Position in event chart: Both trine the New Moon from your sign. Theano’s thoughts: Spiritual progress need not involve hair shirts, sudden renunciations or dubious risks. However tempting a situation might appear, if it would likely place you in unnecessary difficulties, consider safer alternatives for now. |

Capricorn In focus: (58) Concordia – C-type asteroid named for the Roman goddess or personification of peace and social harmony. Alongside the themes ruled by the goddess (i.e. peace and harmony, and positive social interaction and agreements), the correspondences suggest determination, planning and focus – and/or complaisance – in the fulfilment of that aim. (748) Simeïsa – Resident of the Hilda group in 3:2 resonance with Jupiter; identified with Simeïs Observatory and the town of Simeïs, Crimea, Ukraine. Potentially represents changes of opinion, perception or purpose; unique skill or capacity; effective channelling of instinctive prompts; refinement and adjustment of one’s knowledge base; actions that anticipate payoff or reward. Position in event chart: Both square Saturn from Capricorn. Theano’s thoughts: Emotional obstacles can sometimes be overcome by examining the problem from an untried or unusual perspective. If it seems certain obvious routes have been unsuccessful, perhaps a less-frequented path is the answer. |
![]() |
Aquarius In focus: (59) Elpis – CP/B-type asteroid named for the Greek personification of the spirit of hope. May represent a hopeful, positive and “expectant person with a consistent sense of desire” who is able to attain their goals, or optimism versus pessimism in one’s outlook; sources of hope or where it is invested. The Sabian and other associations allude to new beginnings (and presumably the hope contained therein). (129) Antigone – M-type asteroid in the main belt. Antigone was a mythological Theban princess in Greek tales; the daughter of Oedipus, who risked her life to give her brother Polynices a proper burial. Meanings offered include: disobedience, justice, integrity no matter the cost, setting aside all considerations except what is right, setting an example – whether in reality or in one’s own perception; family secrets and scandals that can suddenly re-emerge. The asteroid may also represent idealism, working against corruption and abuse, egalitarian thought, spiritual conviction and courage. Position in event chart: Both semi-square your classical ruler Saturn from Aquarius. Theano’s thoughts: Effective connection with others requires mutual trust, which is not always easy to cultivate. If you’re feeling unsure about a relatively new acquaintance, you might try allowing time for their deeper nature to reveal itself. |
![]() |
Pisces In focus: (6) Hebe – Main-belt stony asteroid named for the Greek goddess of youth and the cupbearer of the gods. May represent service, especially domestic or food service, and issues with enabling; compassion, pardons (of youthful foolishness), innocence, curiosity and vulnerability, protection without restriction, relating to young people; service personnel and attitudes, codependency. I suspect there is also something of the headstrong and impulsive, determined and single-minded nature of youth; leading with action. (666) Desdemona – S-type asteroid identified with a main character in Shakespeare’s Othello. Interpretations offered include sadness, victimisation or the sense thereof; family conflict, inherited relationship patterns or anxiety around them, false accusations. We might add: powerful emotion, love, strategic thinking and forward planning, or feeling a lack of belonging. Position in event chart: Both trine Jupiter from Pisces. Theano’s thoughts: Though it might feel affirming to adhere to some abstract ideal of nobility or sacrifice, be wary of squandering too many of your resources at once. Attending to your own needs will help you to help others more efficiently. |
