Discovered: 1st March 1854 (time unknown) from Düsseldorf, Germany, by Robert Luther
Notes: Large asteroid with a cross-section size of around 100-120 km.

Naming information

Name origin: Roman goddess of war; the name was chosen to mark the beginning of the Crimean War.
Mythology: Bellōna is known for her temple outside of Rome being the official decision making centre in regards to war, and for her bloodlust and madness in battle. Sometimes known as the sister or wife of Mars.
